Merry Christmas, everyone. I'm freezing my ass off in a vintage airstream with the man I love and decent data service. All is right in the world down here. Hope all is right in your world, too.

Much love to you all. Here's to lots of writing, riding, and other adventures in the new year.

XO

Oh, I had almost forgotten about your Air Stream Christmas adventure. How wonderful! I'm sorry that you're freezing, that sucks, but the Air Stream ! How super cool is that?!?!?

Enjoy your holiday and have a great time! You'll have to let me know all about your cooking experiences in the Air Stream :-)

OMG WE WERE SO COLD. The temps dropped into the 20s and the Santa Ana's nearly blew us away!!! So we spent most of our camping experience huddled in the bed under a big down comforter or huddled in the car, stopping for brief photo ops in Joshua Tree before running screaming back to the car!

Our cooking was hampered somewhat by the fact that the oven wasn't working, only the gas range. So we ended up just doing a kielbasa and some potatoes. Frankly, it wasn't any worse than cooking in my own tiny kitchen! My oven "works" in the sense that it turns on, but it runs cool and is inconsistent. The trailer actually had a double-sink, which I don't have at home, so doing dishes was an upgraded experience! Living in the studio has made me much more comfortable than I would have imagined with small spaces. We would definitely do this again. P's parents have a RoadTrek, which isn't nearly as cool as an Air Stream, but they've been trying to sell us on the RV life for years. Volkswagen is bringing out a new one this year that looks as if they've hired Ikea to design the inside... I'm partial to clean modern design over beige vinyl and fake wood paneling, so if we were actually considering something like this, I'd lean that direction. But it's more of a re-booted Microbus than an RV-- limited cooking and no bathroom facilities, so you'd really have to commit to being in a campsite with showers (or else to just being very open-minded about hygiene!) In any case, it's only coming out in Europe right now, anyway!

All of this is hypothetical-- we're not at a place where we can make that sort of purchase-- but it is fun to imagine!

At least you were able to get out of the city for a few days and see the stars once again. Too bad about the 1/2-assed kitchen, but at least you were able to do hot food. Given that you were freezing, that was a real plus.

I hope your new year turns out to be lots of fun for both of you. You're right, a RoadTrek isn't as cool as an Air Stream, but roaming the highways and byways of this amazing nation is always a positive experience.
