Absolutely beautiful, heart-wrenching stuff. The tone is so painfully poignant and detached, very much like Remus, so that the grief at the end is nearly unbearable. Regret is such a painful knife; what's worse than the could-have-beens is the could-have-been-betters. This is one of the few fics I've read where I actually almost hate Remus, though i can't put a finger on exactly why.
The original is quite effective, too, and I certainly commend the author's use of second-person. But there's something about the impersonality, coldness, distance of the narrator here that makes it even more painful at the end, though one understands the purpose of it.
I think I was even more depressed after reading this than after your Elemmakil. Great job on the remixing!
