That is why I sing; that is the music for which I strive: the music that holds memory, that binds us inextricably to the past.
The quote, like the story, is incredible. This was just one of the pieces that spoke to me, the language was lush and incredibly well done, I fell into the story at such a speed that left me dizzy.
I've never had much sympathy for any of the Feanorians, they made some horrific life choices. But this is the best Maglor story I have ever read, it is simply astonishing. Daeron was equally matched with him and I love how you wrote it from his POV - it was strong in personality, and his view of music and what it meant to him was exceptionally well done.
The flow of the story was perfect, the characters were strong and interesting, and for me, point on, the way you wrote it...It's just a ten out of ten for me. There are so many details in this story, small and big and it's like a nuanced melody that you could listen to and still find new and interesting when you have heard it for the 20th time.
A few of the things that really interested me was Daeron singing for Vaire when she worked, how you described the journey from Valinor to Middle-earth. I saw that so clearly it startled me. Maglor's relationship with Elrond, I've never been convinced at the father/son aspect written about often enough, but you did.
I loved the way Maglor and Daeron's past relationship threaded through the story, the undercurrents, how it wasn't all resolved, and the pain and caring and awkward tension stayed through-out their journey to find Maglor's song together. Also how Ulmo talked to Maglor through Daeron.
The body of a great white swan stood out in stark relief against the dark water, its tethering lines pulled taut, a captured bird fighting its bonds and ready to take flight.
When I read that line and saw where it was going, and how Maglor retched, I got goosebumps, and it has been a while since a fanfiction piece has given me such.
Just - a truly incredible tale, perfectly done. I'll be saving this one.
