Fanish squeeing!

The incredibly talented artist [livejournal.com profile] hrymfaxe was asked by someone on her f-list for a drawing of Beleg, and she she decided to use a scene from my story for her subject! Isn't it fantastic? You can practically hear the roar of the bear and feel the tension in Beleg's body as he prepares for the fight of his young life!

(also? BELEG BUNS!!!! Is there anything better? I think not.)

For her commentary on the image, click here. Thank you so much, Hrymfaxe! I am thrilled and flattered and delighted beyond words!

I already saw and did my squeeing over this picture on Hrymfaxe's LJ. It is terrific isn't it? Fabulous picture for one of my favorite stories.

I'm always in awe of visual artists... it's a skill that's just so far beyond me, I can't even comprehend it.

Last week, I found some sketches in a 19th century collection I'm working on that some man had made of his cousins, and they were just appallingly bad-- and strikingly like what one of my attempts of a portrait would have looked like-- so I was laughing at the correspondence where his cousins try very hard to complement his efforts. I'm sure they were thinking 'if that's what I look like, just shoot me' and 'we're not expected to actually display these anywhere, are we?'

People are really hard to draw. I tried to draw Beleg when I was working on my last Slashy Santa story for you. (Actually have done some still life and abstract paintings that I have kind of liked.) The finished Beleg ended up on my desk with a coffee ring on it and my daughter saw him and said. "Mom! Look what you did to your drawing. It's not all that bad. I've seen much worse."

But damning with faint praise is such a confidence booster!

Ain't it the truth! I seem recall getting something like that from Claudio on a couple of things I've written: "It's not a bad story."

I think 'Beleg Buns' ha just become my new favourite phrase.

I'm sure he would be both perplexed and indignant, but they're just asking to be pinched!

I'm so happy you like it as an illustration of that scene! :D Your story is one of the most beautiful I have read in this fandom, and it certainly deserves to be illustrated. (and I enjoyed drawing those buns almost a little too much) Thank you so much for the inspiration.

That is just gorgeous! I agree about Beleg's buns (**gigglesnort**) of course, but I really like the sense of motion in his arms and legs, too.

A wonderful visual from a story that richly deserves illustration.

**hugs**

She really is talented. You can practically feel the bear's weight and immensity. Awesome.

It's a wonderful drawing and so realistic! What a scare, to suddenly find that monster of a bear standing over him.

I also like that it's from a less than heroic moment (falling on his backside in surprise - lol).

It is wonderful, isn't it? And I agree that it's a wonderful moment, and the kind that's usually not captured. We often get to see our heroes in their moments of glory, but very rarely do we get to see them in the moment they're thinking "HOLY &$%(#!" :D
