I posted this picture of Bowie from "Blackstar" over on Instagram 3 days ago but didn't share it here. But what I said over there bears repeating today: I am held in awe by this man who continue[d] to take artistic risks with no fear of crashing and burning, no fear of flying too close to the sun. He [was] a living incarnation of art, and I doubt I will see his kind again in my lifetime. Again, I am reminded that the key to aging well is to keep exploring, keep reaching, to stay creative and curious. I described "Lazarus," my favorite track from Blackstar to @theanthy as "viciously autobiographical and otherworldly at the same time... A man coming to terms with all of his incarnations." Now the song speaks to us as his farewell. He was always three steps ahead of us.
I am shocked to find myself grieving harder over a rockstar I never knew than over uncle Bill, but as Patrick put it, I logged more hours with Bowie.
I knew I would lose all my idols over time; I didn't expect it to be so hard.

Look up here, I’m in heaven
I’ve got scars that can’t be seen
I’ve got drama, can’t be stolen
Everybody knows me now.
Oh I’ll be free
Just like that bluebird
Oh I’ll be free
Ain’t that just like me
