Now that authors have been revealed, I would like to give a shout-out to [livejournal.com profile] ijemanja who wrote me an absolutely fantastic Community holiday fic. Man, I freakin' LOVE Community and was crushed when it got dropped from the NBC lineup mid-season this year.  THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.  People just don't appreciate the genius of subtle and self-referential humor.  ANYHOO.  Ijemanja wrote this hilarious piece for me and it was like reading Community/TVTropes slash. Perfect.

Help, I'm Stuck in a Meta Fic and Can't Get Out

Title: Lay Your Sleeping Head Human on My Faithless Arm
Fandom: Mary Renault, The Charioteer
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kenazfiction (kenazfiction@gmail.com)
Characters: Ralph, Alec
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: The characters and settings herein belong to the estate of Mary Renault.
Summary:"There are times," Alec said, peeling back the corner of the blackout curtain to peer outside, "that I imagine I'll miss these awful things when this blasted war is over."

Author's Notes: Originally written for tetsubinatu, Yuletide 2008. In the interest of complete disclosure, I'll acknowledge having tweaked a couple of words since it was posted to the Yuletide archive. While it stands alone, it could also be read as a sort of precursor to Always: Time Will Bring Their Hour. The title, as one astute reader has already noted, comes from the poem Lullaby by W.H. Auden.

Lay your sleeping head, my love,
Human on my faithless arm;
Time and fevers burn away
Individual beauty from
Thoughtful children, and the grave
Proves the child ephemeral:
But in my arms till break of day
Let the living creature lie,
Mortal, guilty, but to me
The entirely beautiful.

Title: Always: Time Will Bring Their Hour
Fandom: The Charioteer by Mary Renault
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kenazfiction (kenazfiction@gmail.com)
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] lorie945
Pairing: Alec/Sandy
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: These characters are the property of Mary Renault; I'm borrowing them.
Summary: At that moment, there was nothing more important than going home, if only because there was someone to go home to, with all that this entailed.

Author's Notes: Written for athousandwinds in the Yuletide 2007 Challenge. Thanks again to Lorie for the excellent beta!

To the F-list: This isn't my usual fare, but it's a piece of which I'm particularly fond, and I hope on that merit alone you'll give it a once-over. If you have not read The Charioteer yet, I beg you to do so. I guarantee you'll finish it, finish your cathartic weeping and say to yourself "Now, that... *THAT* is how it's done."
