Well, thank you kindly, m'dear! One way or another, these exchanges always end up being pretty inspiring. Perhaps it's the knowledge that we're actually writing for someone else, rather than for our own perverse entertainment ;)... the expectations feel higher, somehow. This one was really slow to get off the ground, and it took a while for it to find its pace and direction. It was really important for me for the relationships to feel honest and natural... particularly tricky with Thranduil, because he essentially only gets a cameo appearance, but his presence is so heavily felt throughout. I was aiming for a pervasive feeling of absent friends/present ghosts, and wanted both Elrohir and Legolas to be reacting as much to what they were *not* experiencing as to what they *were,* if that makes any sense...
And of course I had to throw Haldir in for good measure. I enjoy writing him in a supporting role almost as much as I enjoy thrusting (!) him into the spotlight! :D
